Datacentre Provisioning

Things to know and understand about datacentre server provisioning for PMOboss appliances. Underlined are our minimum expectations in order to deploy PMOboss systems. Inability to meet any of these requirements could have an impact upon your provisioning costs and the length of time required to complete your deployment.

Rack size

To a large extent, this depends upon your storage strategy and additional card requirements.   For this reason, we normall prefer 2U-4U servers. 4U racks support full form factor PCI cards.  If we're deploying clustered solutions, we need the nodes physically proximate in the datacentre.  It would thus be fair to suggest you need 4U of rack space available per PMOboss™ server.

Power Supply

We assume UPS.  If your rack also supplies power, please let us know, as otherwise we provision a redundant PSU unit of suitable wattage for the server configuration.

Storage

If you're anticipating heavy ECM requirements or already have SAN or NAS available, we'd prefer to use it.  If there is any specific fibre-channel card requirement, please let us know, otherwise we use QLogic series cards.  Should on-board storage be required, we use SATA disk, and select a rack size with enough bays for anticipated capacity.  We have a preference for filling each of these slots at the outset.

Network

We require remote ssh access on port 22, and https-based internet access to and from our deployment server to complete installation.  If this cannot be accommodated satisfactorily via your VPN infrastructure, you may need to be able to provision an external IP address to support this.  Should the server only be required within an intranet, it is your responsibility to ensure apprporiate switch, DNS and router configuration from the server, however, PMOboss configuration itself is greatly expedited if we can http(s) proxy onto your PMOboss server remotely.

Backup

We automatically RAID1 mirror our systems, but backup is your responsibility.  We're happy to set up and/or schedule NAS or tape backup.  Please advise us if any specific hardware is required.  Similarly if you're using a centralised backup solution requiring a local backup agent, we're happy to install a Linux client.  There may be a small charge for this should the source code or RPM package not be freely available.

Monitoring and lights out

Please advise if there's a specific lights-out card required.  We offer remote monitoring of PMOBoss™ servers as a value-added service (POA).  If you've your own system management and monitoring suite, then we are happy to install a Linux client if available.  There may be a small charge for this should the source code or RPM package not be freely available.

Racking and Installation

It is your responsibility to rack the server, install the BastionLinux (or other agreed Linux) OS,  and configure the external NIC prior to contacting us to install the PMOBoss™ application.

Virtualisation

PMOBoss is readily supported in any virtualisation environment which supports 64 bit Linux. Simply install the BastionLinux (or other agreed Linux) OS, and configure the external NIC prior to contacting us to install the PMOBoss™ application.
